What is one of the best things to do to combat the busyness in the Mattis Five family? Can we say fun! What do you call a family that has no fun? A boring family! Not only is this an important aspect in the way that we live, it also gives us as parents the vantage point of seeing our children in a different light. That is, the way they interact with each other while building their interpersonal skills. Fun seems simple however the long-term implications of strengthening our family bond that it produces is invaluable. In these moments when our guards are down, our kids also get a front row seat in viewing how both their parents interact with each other.
In our family fun occasionally involves compromise. There are times when we must give up certain things that as individuals we want to do for the greater good of the family. Sometimes Arielle wants daddy or mommy to play dolls with her because this is a fun activity that she enjoys. As such, we find creative ways of making this a fun activity for us to enjoy. Simple activities that as parents we may gloss over as insignificant are monumental in her eyes. Fun for us embodies moments where we can create memories and in doing so, we can reflect on them later. We treat life as a gift. A gift that is closed and stays in the wrapper is not of great benefit. As we live out our lives as a family our expectation is to enjoy life while honoring the sacredness of ‘time’ that we have to spend with each other. As we pause and observe our children and how much they have grown we begin to cherish each moment as time continues to slips away from us. While having fun with each other, we are essentially downloading these experiences in our memory banks. Moreover, we utilize the art of photography to capture these moments time. Without fun we would not be the family we are today. Fun is a must!
