It is fair to say that as a family we would not be the unit we are today if faith was absent. We believe in a transcendent being (God) that is the creator of all things and God is the First Cause. Faith is an essential component by which the Mattis Five family chooses to live our lives. We lead with the understanding that there is a God, and He reveals himself through creation, our conscience and through the person Jesus Christ. It is by faith that we were able to be blessed with three children after doctors had given us zero chance of ever becoming parents due to reproductive issues (God gives us the faith to cope with our kids because sometimes they drive us crazy!).
Faith in God has gotten us through some of the hardest days in our lives and it is a feat that we constantly exercise daily. For us faith is like a muscle that when exercised it becomes stronger. With so many challenges in the world, it seems quite difficult to hold on to faith. However, with the absence of those challenges we would not be able to fathom the true implications of faith. What we choose to do with faith is to exercise it. There are times when it takes a power much greater than one’s finite strength to overcome certain challenges in life. With all the different sources of power such as electricity within our homes, we all still depend on the sun. Likewise, we believe that when all fails, God never does, even if things do not work in our favor. Furthermore, we avow that faith ought to be present with us in good times as well not only when things are not going our way. Faith should be a necessary part of us as our heart is part of the body. It is our desire to join our faith with those with similar outlook, to learn and grow together.
